I would like to sleep, but I’m having troubles…
Months ago the tickets for the Melbourne Death Cab For Cutie gig went on sale, and I couldn’t afford to buy any because I had just bought tickets to Bon Iver. I was a bit cut, but still excited to be going to Bon Iver (which is in a couple of weeks! So keen!)
Tonight I was sitting at home working on my assignment, with facebook open in the background. A friend posted a status saying ‘whoever can get to the palace theatre asap gets a free ticket to Death Cab for Cutie.’ I had to read that a couple of times, haha. I commented ‘are you serious?’ and then started putting on my shoes ready to run if it was. They were serious. I literally ran out of my apartment and ran for the tram, just making it. I had just over half an hour to make it before Death Cab were on. The tram was going comically slow, stuck at every lights, and my phone was going dead so I couldn’t call my friends when I got there. I ended up hassling people on the tram until I found a pen to write the number on my hand so I could at least call from a payphone if I had to.
I got there with seven minutes to spare, and one of the guys was waiting at the door with my ticket. I had an amazing view, a bit behind the sound desk, with a clear view of the stage.
The concert was AMAZING. They played an excellent mix of new and old stuff, including my favourites: ‘What Sarah Said’, ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark’, and ‘Transatlanticism’ (and all sooo beautifully as well). The only way they could have improved it would be if they had played ‘Brothers On A Hotel Bed’ - another personal favourite…And also maybe ‘Someday You Will Be Loved’. But I really can’t complain. They played much more old stuff than I’d expected.
It was such a wonderful night. I can’t believe I got to go for nothing, after wanting to go so badly to start with. Awesome, awesome, awesome =)
